About Vanessa
Wife • Veteran • Mother • Lifelong Horse Lover
My journey with horses didn't start in a classroom — it started in the dirt and dust of Hutchinson, Kansas. After years of volunteering at a therapeutic riding facility and working as a groom, I proudly served 11 years on active duty in the U.S. Army. When I returned to my horses, I saw firsthand the toll that time, travel, and competition had taken on them — and I felt a deep responsibility to give something back.
That drive led me to earn my Certification in Equine Sports Massage Therapy through Therasage. Today, based in Sedgwick, Kansas, I provide comprehensive equine sports massage and restorative therapies designed to enhance performance, increase range of motion, and support the long-term health of your horse.
"Every horse, regardless of breed or discipline, deserves to feel and perform at their absolute best."
From pasture pals to high-level competitors, I bring professional-grade therapy — and a multi-modality approach — directly to your barn. Because our horses give us everything. My mission is to give a little of that back.
Services
I am proud to be a fully mobile practice. I bring professional bodywork and recovery technology directly to your barn, ensuring your horse remains in a familiar, low-stress environment for every session.

Deep Tissue & Myofascial Release
I go beyond the surface to address the connective tissue and deep muscle layers. This helps release chronic tension, improve elasticity, and restore full range of motion. Tailored to the horse's needs. It is recommended horses have 24hrs off post massage.
Trigger Point Therapy
By locating and releasing "knots" or hyper-irritable spots in the muscle, I can encourage relaxation and more fluid movement patterns. Tailored to the horse's needs. It is recommended horses have 24hrs off post massage.
Pre & Post Event Support
Tailored sessions to prepare the body for activity or to assist the natural cooling-down process and muscle relaxation after performance. Pre-event massage best within 30 min of activity. Post-event can be given once heart rate has returned to normal.
Tendon & Ligament Session
Gentle, specialized techniques designed for the unique needs of connective tissues to support overall structural resilience.
Stretching & Mobility
Guided stretching to assist with flexibility and reduce stiffness, keeping your horse's biomechanics smooth throughout their training.
Preventative Maintenance
Regular sessions designed to keep your horse feeling their best, identifying areas of tension early to help maintain a consistent training schedule.
Kinesiology (KT) Taping
Functional taping provides neuro-sensory feedback and external support to joints and muscles while allowing for completely natural movement.

A Piece of the Puzzle
Your horse's wellness team should work together. I'm one part of the picture — complementing the vet, farrier, and chiropractor you already trust.
Your Veterinarian
Treats injury, illness, lameness, and all medical concerns. Always the first call for health issues.
Your Chiropractor
Adjusts joints and skeletal alignment, restoring range of motion at the bone & joint level.
Your Farrier
Maintains balance, soundness, and proper hoof care — the foundation every horse moves on.
My Role
I work the muscles, fascia, and tendons that hold everyone else's work in place — keeping your horse moving freely between visits.
Massage therapy doesn't replace your vet or chiropractor — it supports them. Many top performance barns use all four because soft tissue work helps skeletal adjustments hold longer and prevents compensation patterns before they become injuries.

Words from the Barn
Real stories from the horses and owners I've had the privilege to work with.
Just wanted to send a big thank you to Vanessa for the body work she has been doing with Topper and Dino. Full body massages for both, plus cold laser work for Topper's joints and for a sore stifle that was bothering Dino. Yes, Topper now has his own personal massage therapist — and does that really surprise anybody? (After 30+ years with me, I figure he deserves it!) Vanessa is so patient with my senior horses and has spent so much time making sure they feel their best.

Questions I Hear Often
Real answers to the questions horse owners ask before their first session.
How is this different from what my chiropractor does?
Chiropractors adjust joints and skeletal alignment — they work at the bone level. I work on the muscles, fascia, and soft tissue that hold those adjustments in place.
The two are complementary, not competitive. Many top performance barns use both because a chiropractic adjustment won't hold if the surrounding muscles are tight and pulling things back out of alignment. Massage therapy between chiropractic visits helps extend the benefits and prevents the tension patterns that caused the misalignment in the first place.
My horse seems fine — why would they need bodywork?
Horses are prey animals, so they're wired to hide pain and weakness. By the time a horse is visibly lame or uncomfortable, tension has usually been building for weeks or months.
Preventative bodywork keeps small issues from becoming big ones — and keeps performance horses at their peak. Even pasture pals and retired horses benefit; it extends their comfort and mobility as they age.
How often does my horse need a session?
It depends on your horse's workload and condition. For most horses in regular work, a session every 4–8 weeks keeps them feeling their best.
Horses in heavy training, show season, or recovering from an injury may benefit from more frequent sessions. Pasture horses and seniors typically do well with a session every 8–12 weeks. We can figure out the right cadence together after the first session.
What if my horse doesn't tolerate being touched?
Every session starts on the horse's terms. I'll read their body language, start gently, and work up to deeper pressure only as they're ready.
Many horses that are initially skeptical end up leaning into the work by the end of the first session. If your horse has specific sensitivities or anxiety, just let me know ahead of time — we'll take the time needed to keep them comfortable.
Is bodywork really worth it for a senior or pasture horse?
Absolutely — arguably more so than for a performance horse. Senior horses deal with arthritis, decades of compensation patterns, and muscle loss. Regular bodywork keeps them comfortable, maintains their mobility, and supports their quality of life.
Pasture pals without a job are still athletes in their own way. They graze, play, roll, and move all day. Keeping their soft tissue healthy extends their comfort for years.
Does the horse need time off after a session?
I recommend 24 hours off after a deep tissue or trigger point session — light turnout is fine, but no hard work. The body needs time to integrate the release.
Lighter sessions (pre-event, stretching, or maintenance) don't require rest. Pre-event work is actually designed to be done within 30 minutes of activity, and post-event work can happen as soon as your horse's heart rate returns to normal.
